What Relaxes You?
Ask your self what is the one thing that gets you into your most peaceful mood. Is it music, sleep, or yoga? It could be anything uniquely tailor made to your preferred amount of comfortability, it could even be cleaning. On this sunday afternoon, The one thing that relaxes me happens to be green tea and youtube videos! Find your safe place as well, sometimes you need a moment to yourself. If you're like me, your mind goes a million miles per hour about everything you have to accomplish and what you could be doing to accomplish those different goals. With that being said, I need my bed, a bath, or about an hour and a half in my home office to recollect myself, and temporarily let go of my worries and schedule. By doing that, it gives me a fresh set of eyes to look at the situations I have to deal with, and it allows me to rest my body as well.
Are you aware that statistics show that 33% of Americans have admitted to being under extreme amounts of stress, and 77% of Americans regularly experience physical symptoms caused by stress. Dartmouth Health Promotion & Wellness stated that "The ability to relax is important in effectively managing stress and anxiety. When we feel stressed, our bodies react with what is called the "fight or flight" response." This can cause many bad side effects. Although stress is apart of life, and you need a decent amount of stress to keep everyday life afloat, motivation isn't the only thing that can come out of stress. You can lose huge amounts of sleep when under stress. Not having sleep is highly detrimental to your well being. Many people, including myself at one point, are unaware that if you do not sleep for 11 days or more, you will suffer great consequences. Recently in Psychology I've learned that your brain uses sleep to cool off. The normal temperature of your body is 37ºC, and your brain cannot handle any temperature above 40ºC. If you're stressed out, and you aren't getting any sleep, don't let this useful information scare you, simply figure out what your relaxation method is, and take advantage of it. If you need to listen to Miguel's soft voice and harmony's or read a great book in peace with herbal tea by your night stand, then take a break from worrying about your problems, and handle the most serious problem which is your health and well being. When you rest and relax, you take on your problems in a different approach and mindset, you're no longer frantic and abstract but rather assertive and calm.
